Penang FC booked their place in the Piala FA Malaysia 2025/26 quarter-finals after sweeping aside Melaka FC with a dominant 5-0 aggregate victory, sealing the result with a 3-0 win in the second-leg clash at the Stadium Bandaraya tonight.
Carrying a 2-0 advantage from the first leg in Hang Jebat on August 17, courtesy of a brace from Australian forward Dylan Wenzel-Halls, Wan Rohaimi Wan Ismail’s men showed no mercy on home soil as they added three more goals to complete a commanding performance.
The opener arrived in the 11th minute when captain Stefano Brundo reacted quickest to fire home after Wenzel-Halls’ header from Ahmad Irfan Mohd Noor’s corner cannoned off the post.
A midfield error from Melaka proved costly in the 39th minute, as promising youngster Haziq Kutty Abba pounced to steal possession before drilling in a low strike to double Penang’s lead and put the hosts comfortably ahead.
Despite Melaka’s attempts to rally after the break, the defensive pairing of Faith Obilor and Brundo kept the visitors at bay with a disciplined display.
The match boiled over in the 75th minute when Filipino import OJ Porteria was shown a red card following a VAR review, after he was adjudged to have fouled Afeeq Iqmal Rosli, who was through on goal.
Down to 10 men, Melaka’s resistance crumbled further as Tchetche Kipre struck in the 80th minute to make it 3-0 on the night, leaving the Harimau Kumbang faithful celebrating their team’s progression to the quarter-finals in style.
With a 5-0 aggregate triumph, Penang advance confidently into the last eight of the FA Cup, where tougher tests await. For Wan Rohaimi’s men, the emphatic result not only secures qualification but also sends a strong statement of intent for the rest of the competition.
