PETRONAS has moved swiftly to shut down rumours circulating on social media that linked the Malaysian energy giant to a supposed title sponsorship deal with the Bangladesh Football League.
In an official statement, PETRONAS made it clear that no agreement of any kind has been reached with the league, stressing that the company has never authorised its name, brand, or trademark to be used in association with Bangladeshi football competitions.
The firm expressed concern over the misuse of its branding, reiterating that protecting the integrity and reputation of PETRONAS remains a top priority.
“PETRONAS has not entered into any sponsorship agreement for the Bangladesh Football League,” the company stated. “We take the integrity of our brand seriously and remain focused on delivering value to stakeholders and communities where we operate.”
The clarification comes amid a spike in online posts claiming the national oil company was set to feature prominently in the league’s upcoming season—a rumour that quickly drew attention across Southeast Asian and South Asian football circles.
