Buriram United is unfazed ahead of their high-stakes second-leg clash against Johor Darul Ta’Zim in the AFC Champions League Elite 2024/25 Round of 16.
Despite the hostile atmosphere expected at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, the Thai powerhouse remains confident in their ability to progress to the next round in Saudi Arabia.
After a tense 0-0 draw in the first leg at Buriram Stadium, both teams head into tomorrow night’s decisive encounter with everything on the line.
Head coach Osmar Loss Vieira emphasized the importance of the match and his team’s tactical readiness.
“This is the most crucial game. We have already faced JDT three times, and both teams understand each other’s playing styles well.
“For tomorrow’s game, we have focused on refining our tactics to ensure we move forward. The match might start slow, but the first goal will change everything. We are preparing to handle any scenario and be at our best.”
Acknowledging the possibility of extra time or penalties, Osmar highlighted his squad’s intense preparation.
“We must be ready for 90 minutes, extra time, or even penalties. We’ve trained extensively to execute our finishing and defensive strategies flawlessly. Fortunately, we have a fully fit squad, and with a week of solid preparation, we are confident in our ability to handle any challenge.”
Midfielder Kenneth Dougall echoed his coach’s confidence, stating that Buriram United is unshaken by the prospect of playing in front of 34,000 JDT fans.
“This will be an exciting game, and we are fully prepared to take our team to Saudi Arabia. The stakes are clear—win, and we move on; lose, and we go home.
“The first game we played in Johor during the group stage was different due to a red card incident. The second game, we controlled better, but both matches ended 0-0. Tomorrow, we must be sharper in front of goal.
“Yes, the atmosphere will be intense, but we are used to playing in front of passionate home crowds. This won’t be a problem for us. We will stay composed and do what needs to be done.”
When asked if Buriram was focusing on JDT’s star striker Bergson, Dougall dismissed the idea of marking specific players.
“We are not singling out anyone. Both games ended 0-0, which proves our defense is solid. If we maintain that level, our attacking play will take care of the rest.”
