Rodtang Jitmuangnon, a Muay Thai superstar, has lost his ONE Flyweight Muay Thai Championship after failing to meet the weight and hydration requirements during the official weigh-ins for ONE 169.
Despite the setback, Rodtang’s highly anticipated bout against the UK’s Jacob Smith will proceed as a catchweight contest at 135.5 pounds.
During the weigh-ins, Rodtang exceeded the weight limit by 0.5 pounds on his first attempt. In his second attempt, he failed the hydration test with a reading of 0.259, which did not meet the required standard. Subsequently, Rodtang chose not to proceed with a third attempt, and the weigh-in period elapsed, leading to the forfeiture of his championship title.
The 26-year-old fighter expressed his regret in a heartfelt post on Facebook, apologizing to his fans for the outcome. “I sincerely apologize to everyone for not being able to defend my title properly. I take full responsibility for this, and I will work harder to make things right,” Rodtang stated.
The match between Rodtang and Jacob Smith will still take place on Saturday, November 9, at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium, If Rodtang wins, the flyweight title will remain vacant. Conversely, a victory for Smith would crown him the new ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion.
This situation introduces a dramatic twist to the event, adding immense pressure on both fighters. For Rodtang, it’s an opportunity to salvage pride and make a strong statement, while Smith has a golden chance to secure the championship under extraordinary circumstances.
Fans can witness this high-stakes battle live on ONE’s streaming platforms and televised broadcasts. The bout promises to be an intense showdown, with both athletes vying for glory despite the unexpected turn of events.
