Malaysia’s search for fresh talent to reinforce the national team’s goalkeeping department has unearthed a promising new prospect in New Zealand.
The discovery comes amid growing interest in recruiting heritage players to bolster the Harimau Malaya squad, following the recent high-profile additions of overseas-based players to the national setup.
National head coach Peter Cklamovski has already called up two heritage players this year — Gabriel Palmero, who plays for CD Tenerife B in Spain, and Dutch-Malaysian midfielder Hector Hevel, who played a pivotal role in Malaysia’s 2-0 victory over Nepal in their opening AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers Group F fixture.
Now, attention has shifted to Logan Kinajil-Moran, a 22-year-old goalkeeper currently playing for Miramar Rangers U-23 in New Zealand. Seen as a potential future asset for the national team, Logan’s performances have been closely monitored by talent scouts and football enthusiasts alike.
In addition to his club commitments in New Zealand, Logan is also representing the University of Rochester in the United States. His eligibility to represent Malaysia stems from his familial connection — his grandfather is reportedly of Sabahan descent.
“Logan Kinajil-Moran, a New Zealand-born goalkeeper, is currently playing for the University of Rochester. According to his Bucknell Bison profile, his grandfather hails from Sabah,” reported Harimau Abroad via X (formerly Twitter).
While Logan’s official eligibility to don the Malaysian jersey has yet to be confirmed by the relevant authorities, his potential inclusion is being seen as a valuable addition to Malaysia’s talent pool, particularly for the U23 national team.
As the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) continues to explore global options, Logan’s case reflects the nation’s growing strategy of leveraging diaspora talent to strengthen Harimau Malaya’s competitive edge on the Asian football stage.
