Selangor FC delivered a roaring statement of intent after dismantling Penang FC 5–1 in the Liga Super Malaysia 2025/26 at Stadium Bandaraya, Pulau Pinang.
With Sikh Izhan guarding the posts and national star Faisal Halim donning the captain’s armband, the Red Giants fielded a strong and confident lineup. Chrigor Moraes spearheaded the attack — and he did not disappoint.
Penang, meanwhile, started with Ramadhan Hamid between the sticks and relied on the leadership of Stefano Brundo to rally the Harimau Kumbang.
The hosts began brightly, threatening several times through the lively pairing of Tchetche Kipre and Wenzel-Halls as Selangor struggled to settle into rhythm.
The match was halted for more than 15 minutes due to floodlight failure — but when play resumed, Selangor struck instantly.
In the 26th minute, captain Faisal Halim blasted home a powerful drive, calming the nerves of the visiting camp.
Penang responded with waves of attacks, but Selangor’s defensive organisation — led by Sharul Nazeem and Safuwan Baharudin — kept the hosts at bay.
Another blackout hit the stadium, forcing the referee to stop play yet again. When the match restarted, a staggering 28 minutes of added time were announced to complete the first half.
In the 45+5th minute, Faisal’s thunderous strike crashed off the crossbar, and Thai midfielder Picha Autra reacted quickest to slot home the rebound, Selangor led 2-1.
After six minutes, A pin-point cross from Faisal Halim found Chrigor Moraes, who powered the ball into the net to make it 3–0.
Penang finally found joy when Tchetche Kipre curled home in the 18th minute of added time, giving the home supporters something to cheer — but the first half ended with Selangor firmly ahead, 3–1.
In the second half, Selangor returned from the break hungrier than ever.
The Brazilian forward showed his clinical finishing as he fired home his second of the night, restoring Selangor’s three-goal cushion.
A composed finish from Chrigor not only secured his hat-trick but also Selangor’s fifth goal — killing off any hopes of a Penang comeback.
Penang attempted several late pushes, but Sikh Izhan and his backline refused to budge.
After 85 minutes, Selangor cruised with a commanding four-goal lead, and the final whistle confirmed their dominant 5–1 victory.
The emphatic win keeps Selangor solidly in 4th place, maintaining pressure on the top three, and Penang FC down to the bottom of the table after 11 matches
