Khalid Abdul Samad, former president of the Kuala Lumpur Football Association (KLFA) has questioned the ‘share’ for the Kuala Lunpur City FC team after FAM received RM5 million from the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim earlier.
Khalid questioned the distribution of funds, pointing out that despite KL City FC contributing six players to the national team, they did not receive any financial support from the RM5 million allocated to FAM by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He highlighted the contributions of KL City FC players in the Asian Cup, where Malaysia drew 3-3 against Korea Republic, yet the club did not benefit financially.
“MFL and FAM have to think of a way to help because not only KL City FC but almost all other football teams are facing financial problems. They have to discuss together to find a solution, not give advice on paying salaries and then take action,” said Khalid.
“I think it’s time for FAM and MFL to have some restructuring and more transparency to prioritize the football industry. The solution to the problem has not been discussed and sought until now.”
“If this situation continues, maybe our league will be blacklisted by the International Football Federation (FIFA) because there are only teams that cannot afford to pay salaries every year,”
“We are also disappointed because we are the supplier of players to the national squad, when FAM got RM5 million, we hoped to get a little but we didn’t get even a cent.”
“This is the second time I mentioned this and it should have been a signal because Romel Morales who scored the goal and Paulo Josue who assisted the goal, both are KL City FC players.”
“That’s why we were a bit disappointed because, in the situation at that time, we were depressed because we couldn’t get money from Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and any other party until the salary was overdue,”
