Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) continued their Spanish pre-season campaign with another impressive result, holding newly crowned Segunda Division champions Levante UD to a goalless draw in a high-intensity friendly held in the early hours of Sunday.
Under the guidance of head coach Xisco Muñoz, the Southern Tigers put in a composed and disciplined performance in their fourth pre-season match, showcasing resilience and structure against a side set for a return to La Liga.
Leading the JDT starting eleven was Arif Aiman, the Harimau Malaya star tasked with orchestrating the attack alongside established names such as Jon Irazabal, Nacho Mendez, and goalkeeper Andoni Zubiaurre.
Levante, playing at their own training complex, controlled possession for much of the first half, launching repeated attacks down the flanks in search of gaps in JDT’s defense. However, the Malaysian champions absorbed the pressure well, keeping their shape and staying calm under fire.
JDT’s counter-attacking intent was evident, but despite some promising transitions, they were unable to breach the Spanish side’s defense. The first half ended goalless, with both teams struggling to convert their momentum into clear chances.
The second half followed a similar script. Levante pushed hard to find the breakthrough, but JDT’s backline — marshalled superbly by Antonio Glauder, Jon Irazabal, and Eddy Israfilov — stood firm and frustrated the hosts.
Substitutions saw Afiq Fazail, Samu Castillejo, and Moussa Sidibe brought on in an effort to freshen up JDT’s attack, but the match remained tightly contested with neither side managing to find the net.
After 90 minutes of intense football, the match concluded 0-0, marking another commendable result for JDT as they continue their preparations for the upcoming season.
The Southern Tigers will next face Valencia Mestalla, the reserve team of La Liga giants Valencia CF, on 14 July at the Estadi Olímpic Camilo Cano in what will be their fifth match of the Spanish pre-season tour.
