Amateur Football League (AFL) has officially announced a strategic partnership with Astro as the official broadcast partner for the 2025/26 Liga A1 Semi-Pro season.
Under this landmark collaboration, Astro will air 31 live matches throughout the tournament, with broadcasts scheduled every Monday at 8:45 PM, exclusively on Astro Arena. This partnership marks a major milestone in expanding the reach and visibility of semi-professional football in Malaysia.
AFL Chairman, Datuk Wira Mohd Yusoff Mahadi, expressed his excitement about the collaboration, noting that Astro’s involvement would significantly elevate the league’s profile.
“Liga A1 Semi-Pro has quickly become a hot topic among local football fans, many of whom have been eagerly waiting to watch live broadcasts,” he said during the official announcement ceremony.
“For the first time, this league will be featured on national television. This is not only a proud moment for the semi-pro and amateur football community, but also a step forward in giving this league the recognition it deserves.”
“With strong support and commitment from a reputable local broadcaster like Astro, we aim to offer fans a high-quality viewing experience. At the same time, this collaboration is expected to enhance the commercial value of the league, ultimately benefiting both clubs and players.”
Also present at the event were AFL Deputy Chairman Dato’ Dollah Salleh, Board Members Datuk Kamarudin Hassan, Chiew Cun Yong, and Anwar Mamtaj, as well as AFL Chief Operating Officer, Mohd Raimi Fakri Mohd Fuad.
Datuk Yusoff further emphasized that Astro’s involvement will meet the growing demand for comprehensive, engaging football coverage from local fans.
“Previously, matches were streamed via AFL’s YouTube, Facebook, and MyTV platforms. This season, fans can look forward to an upgraded experience through Astro’s professional sports broadcasting capabilities.”
“We are confident that this partnership aligns with our objective of rebuilding the Liga A1 Semi-Pro brand and elevating it to greater heights.”
He added that Astro’s proven track record and experience in sports broadcasting makes it the ideal partner to amplify the league’s impact.
“Astro’s broadcasting expertise will help us meet the expectations of football fans nationwide. Without a doubt, this collaboration is set to spark a football phenomenon—especially for Liga A1—that will be remembered for years to come.”
As the official broadcaster, Astro will kick off coverage with the opening match on Saturday, August 2, 2025, featuring Perlis Guar Syed Alwi FC (GSA FC) vs. Kedah FA at Stadium Tuanku Syed Putra, Kangar, starting at 8:45 PM.
