The latest AFC Club Competitions Ranking released by Footy Rankings today placed Malaysia at 8th in East Asia, thus ensuring one direct slot to the AFC Champions League (ACL) group stage and two direct entries to the AFC Cup group stage.
Johor Darul Ta’zim FC (JDT) contributed 95% of Malaysia’s points by contributing 8 of the 8.45 points earned. Perak contributed 0.45 points in 2019.
The AFC Club Competitions Ranking is determined over a 4 year period. JDT’s wins in the ACL in 2019 and 2021 have helped secure continental competitions for Malaysian clubs until 2023. Prior to JDT’s exploits in Asia, Malaysia only received one ACL Playoff slot, a direct entry to the AFC Cup group stage and one AFC Cup playoff slot.
