Ulsan Hyundai clinched a spot in the semi-final after beating Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, scoring 1-0 in the AFC Champions League 2023/24 quarter-final (East zone) at Ulsan Munsu Football Stadium, Ulsan.
In the first match, both teams tied 1-1 at Jeonju World Cup Stadium, Jeonju in last Tuesday.
Ulsan was able to laugh at Seol Young-woo’s wonderful winning goal just before the end of the first half. Although he complained of shoulder pain during the ceremony, he played the game without any major problems.
Ulsan was able to block Jeonbuk’s offensive thanks to Cho Hyun-woo’s save. Seol Young-woo accurately completed Rubiksson’s cross in extra time in the first half, opening the goal for Jeonbuk.
Afterwards, Ulsan’s defense, centered around Jo Hyun-woo, completely broke Jeonbuk’s will to tie. They also attempted a counter attack by substituting Lee Dong-kyung and Kim Min-woo.
There were no additional goals from Ulsan and Jeonbuk. Jeonbuk was anxious, and because of this, the accuracy of their crosses decreased. Ulsan also had a chance to run away, but their finishing ability was not good.
In the end, Ulsan became the winner of the ‘Hyundai Derby’ held in the Asian Champions League. They continued their undefeated streak in head-to-head matches since August of last year.
Meanwhile, Ulsan advanced to the semifinals, and they compete for a ticket to the finals with the winner of Shandong Taishan and Yokohama F. Marinos. Currently, Yokohama is ahead, winning the first game 2-1.
