Izán Guevara has secured his place on the 2027 MotoGP grid, with Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP confirming the Spanish rider will graduate from the team’s Moto2 programme and join the premier class alongside Toprak Razgatlıoğlu.
The announcement makes Guevara the third confirmed MotoGP rookie for the 2027 season so far, as the championship prepares to enter an entirely new technical era.
For the former Moto3 World Champion, the promotion represents the fulfilment of a long-term dream.
For Yamaha and Pramac, it represents another major step in their strategy of developing young talent from within their own racing structure.
Guevara announced himself as one of motorcycle racing’s brightest young talents by winning the Moto3 World Championship in 2022.
He subsequently moved into Moto2, where his development continued through a number of challenging seasons.
After showing significant progress, the Spaniard emerged as a consistent frontrunner in 2026 and also claimed victory in last year’s Moto2 season finale.
Yamaha now believes Guevara is ready for the biggest challenge of his career.
The timing is particularly significant because MotoGP will introduce a completely new technical package in 2027, including 850cc motorcycles and a new tyre manufacturer.
That means every rider and manufacturer will effectively begin another learning process.
For Guevara, Yamaha believes that could create an ideal environment for a young rider entering the premier class.
Guevara described his promotion as one of the biggest moments of his career.
“This is a dream come true for me. Reaching MotoGP has always been my goal.”
The Spaniard also recognised the sacrifices made by the people around him throughout his journey.
“It has taken many years of hard work and sacrifices from a lot of people around me.”
He thanked Yamaha, his family, team members and support staff for helping him reach the premier class.
However, Guevara insists that his immediate attention remains firmly on Moto2.
“I am very calm because my focus remains fully on Moto2. We are fighting for the championship, and my objective is to finish this chapter of my career in the best possible way.”
Looking ahead to 2027, his approach is straightforward.
“My first goal will be to learn, adapt as quickly as possible, and work closely with the team.”
Only after that will he look towards higher ambitions.
“Step by step, I want to keep improving and reach the highest level possible.”
Yamaha Managing Director Paolo Pavesio believes Guevara’s promotion is exactly what the manufacturer’s BLU CRU development philosophy was designed to achieve.
“Izan’s promotion to MotoGP is a great example of what the BLU CRU programme was designed to achieve.”
Pavesio highlighted Guevara’s progression from Moto3 champion to a more mature professional within the Yamaha system.
The manufacturer believes that his improvement in consistency, work ethic and professionalism has confirmed his readiness for MotoGP.
“Beyond his unquestionable talent and speed, he has matured significantly as both a rider and a professional.”
Yamaha also sees the 2027 regulation changes as a unique opportunity.
With every manufacturer required to adapt to new machinery and regulations, the gap between established stars and newcomers could potentially be reset.
“With MotoGP entering a completely new technical era in 2027, we also believe the timing is ideal for a rookie to make the transition.”
Prima Pramac Yamaha Team Principal Paolo Campinoti welcomed Guevara as an important addition to the team’s long-term structure.
“We are very proud to welcome Izan to the team for 2027.”
Campinoti believes Guevara has earned the opportunity through his performances and development in Moto2.
The promotion also fits the philosophy behind Pramac’s partnership with Yamaha: identify promising riders and create a pathway towards the premier class.
Team Director Gino Borsoi agreed, describing the pairing of youth and experience as a key strength.
He will be partnered by Turkish superstar Toprak Razgatlıoğlu, who remains an important part of Yamaha’s long-term MotoGP project.
The combination gives Prima Pramac Yamaha a contrasting rider profile for 2027.
Guevara brings youth, development potential and a Moto3 world title to the team.
Toprak, meanwhile, provides premier-class experience and an established competitive benchmark.
Borsoi believes the combination could provide the right balance for the new technical era.
“We believe this line-up combines youth, talent and experience, and represents the right direction for the future of Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP.”
The 2027 season will mark one of the biggest technical changes in modern MotoGP, and Guevara’s arrival comes at precisely the right moment for a young rider looking to establish himself.
The new 850cc machines, together with the change in tyre supplier, will require teams and riders to rethink their approaches.
Rather than entering an established system where every reference point is already known, Guevara will be learning alongside an entire MotoGP field adapting to a new generation of motorcycles.
That could provide the Spanish star with an opportunity to make an immediate impression.
But the expectations remain measured. Guevara has made it clear that his first objective is to learn, adapt and build his experience.
For Yamaha, the hope is that those foundations can eventually produce another factory-level star.
From winning the Moto3 World Championship in 2022 to establishing himself as a frontrunner in Moto2, Guevara has followed the pathway Yamaha and Pramac hoped he would.
