IndonesianGP: Bezzecchi Wins as Aprilia Seal Historic All Top 4, Martin Retakes Lead
Marco Bezzecchi won the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia 2026 at the Pertamina Mandalika Circuit, passing Raul Fernandez on Lap 19 of 27 and pulling clear for a 4.260-second victory as Aprilia filled the top four places for the first time in MotoGP history.
The win was Bezzecchi's first since the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello and Italy's 300th in MotoGP. It also reshaped the title race: Jorge Martin's third place, worth 16 points, put him back on top of the standings by two points, 355 to 353, after Marc Marquez could finish only sixth. Marquez had started the day four points clear of Martin, while Bezzecchi closed his own gap to the leader from 49 points after Japan to 46.
Tyre choice was a non-debate, with all 21 riders on the grid running the same slick-soft front and slick-medium rear, all new, over the 27-lap, 116.127km distance. Conditions were dry, with air temperature at 29°C and the track at 62°C under 73% humidity. Fernandez started from pole in 1:28.852 with Bezzecchi second on the grid in 1:28.961, while Toprak Razgatlioglu began from the back of the field after a grid penalty issued by the FIM MotoGP Stewards.
Unlike in Saturday's Sprint, Turn 1 passed without incident. Bezzecchi lunged up the inside of Fernandez but ran slightly wide on the exit, letting the polesitter keep the lead, while Marquez got away well in third. Martin passed Fabio Di Giannantonio and then inherited fourth when Fermin Aldeguer, the 2025 Indonesian GP winner, crashed out at Turn 16 on Lap 2. Half a lap later Martin dived up the inside of Marquez at Turn 10 to take third, with Pedro Acosta, who set the fastest lap of the Grand Prix on Lap 4 with a 1:30.254, next in line behind the Ducati.
Acosta passed Marquez on Lap 7 with a very late move at Turn 10, holding on through a front-end moment at Turn 11. At the front, Fernandez led Bezzecchi by 0.474 seconds that lap, with Martin 2.063 seconds off the lead. Bezzecchi then set the fastest lap of the race to that point, a 1:29.991 on Lap 11, to trim the gap to 0.437 seconds, with Martin 2.702 seconds back.
Behind them, Marquez and Acosta, who will be teammates in 2027, traded places five times between Lap 7 and Lap 20. Marquez was back ahead on Lap 13 when Acosta slowed to a 1:31.710, Acosta answered on Lap 15, Marquez regained the place on Lap 17 after Acosta dropped to 1:32.024, and Acosta moved through for good on Lap 20.
The lead finally changed on Lap 19. Bezzecchi was just 0.100 seconds behind Fernandez at the end of Lap 18 and made the pass early on Lap 19, then set a 1:29.960 on the same lap, a new lap record that beat Aldeguer's 2025 mark of 1:30.499 by 0.539 seconds. Fernandez ran wide at Turn 1 after the move and dropped to a 1:31.495, handing Bezzecchi a lead of 1.435 seconds. Martin sat third, 2.4 seconds behind Fernandez and 5.7 seconds clear of the fight between Marquez, Acosta and Ai Ogura.
Ogura then took centre stage in the fight for fourth. He passed Marquez at Turn 16 on Lap 21 and was ahead of Acosta by Lap 25 after a back-and-forth, with Acosta fighting back into Turn 13 before Ogura made it stick at Turn 16. Bezzecchi, meanwhile, stretched his lead to 2.419 seconds by Lap 21 and 3.330 seconds going into the final lap, while Fernandez, riding with two broken fingers from the Sprint crash, kept Martin at bay to hold second.
Bezzecchi crossed the line in 40:46.582, an average of 170.8 km/h, 4.260 seconds ahead of Fernandez, with Martin 2.630 seconds further back. He led the final nine laps, after Fernandez had led the first 18, and Fernandez gave up 1.5 seconds to him over the last two laps.
