Indonesia national football team has unveiled a 27-player squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 Asian Qualifiers Round 3, set to take place from 10 to 15 October 2024.
Head coach Shin Tae-yong has assembled a mix of seasoned internationals and rising stars as the Garuda squad prepares to take on Bahrain and China in Group C.
Shin Tae-yong has chosen to retain key players who have become regulars in the national team setup. The likes of defenders Jay Idzes, Thom Haye, Nathan Tjoe-A-On, and forward Ragnar Oratmangoen—all of whom play pivotal roles in their respective clubs in Europe—continue to be trusted. These players have consistently delivered solid performances in recent international fixtures and will once again be at the heart of Indonesia’s ambitions on the world stage.
One of the most notable inclusions is Maarten Paes, the FC Dallas goalkeeper in Major League Soccer (MLS), who made his debut for Indonesia in early September 2024. His continued selection reflects the confidence Shin Tae-yong has in Paes, as he looks to secure Indonesia’s goalkeeping position with stability and experience.
In a significant boost for the Garuda squad, Jordi Amat, a Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) defender in the Malaysian League, makes his return to the national team. The 32-year-old had been sidelined due to injury, missing crucial matches against Saudi Arabia and Australia. His comeback comes at a critical time, as Indonesia will rely on his leadership and defensive prowess in these vital World Cup qualifiers.
Amat’s return strengthens Indonesia’s defense, adding a seasoned presence alongside emerging talents such as Sandy Walsh and Mees Hilgers, who have impressed in recent outings.
In addition to the regulars, Indonesia’s squad features several young talents eager to make their mark. The 21-year-old Marselino Ferdinan continues to shine in midfield, while the versatile Ivar Jenner and Egy Maulana Vikri provide creative options. Striker Rafael Struick, a promising forward, is expected to lead Indonesia’s attack alongside the dynamic Hokky Caraka and experienced Dimas Drajad.
