Hector Bidoglio, head coach of Johor Darul Ta’Zim, remains undaunted by the challenge posed by Gwangju FC as his team prepares for their crucial AFC Champions League Elite (ACLE) encounter.
Despite Gwangju’s impressive form in the competition, Bidoglio is confident in JDT’s ability to compete and secure a positive result.
JDT heads into the match with four points from two ACLE East League matches. After a hard-fought 2-2 draw with Shanghai Port and a commanding 3-0 victory over Shanghai Shenhua, the Southern Tigers are keen to continue their strong run in the competition. However, they now face Gwangju FC, a team that has shocked many with their performance on the Asian stage.
Gwangju, currently fighting to stay in K-League 1’s elimination playoff group, has been a revelation in the AFC Champions League Elite. Despite their domestic struggles, the South Korean side remains unbeaten in the ACLE. They made headlines with a stunning 7-3 demolition of Yokohama F. Marinos on September 17 and followed that with a narrow 1-0 win over Kawasaki Frontale on October 1.
Acknowledging the strength of Gwangju, Bidoglio praised their style of play, highlighting their ability to dominate possession and maintain pressure in the opposition’s half. “We know Gwangju, we know they are a great team. They like to control the ball and play in the opponent’s area,” he stated during the pre-match press conference.
Despite the formidable opposition, Bidoglio believes JDT has the quality to match Gwangju. He emphasized the importance of focusing on his team’s strengths, particularly their ability to control the ball and play proactively.
“The most important thing is to focus on ourselves. Our team likes to control the ball, and we have good players,” Bidoglio asserted, expressing his belief in JDT’s capabilities.
The upcoming clash will take place at Yongin Mireu Stadium on October 22, a venue change necessitated by the substandard condition of Gwangju World Cup Stadium.
Adding to the excitement, the match could see former Real Madrid star Jese Rodriguez make his much-anticipated debut for JDT. Fans are eagerly awaiting to see if Rodriguez, a key signing for the Southern Tigers, will play a pivotal role in the match against Gwangju.
As JDT prepares for this pivotal encounter, Bidoglio’s message is clear—focus on their own game, maintain composure, and aim for a strong result on South Korean soil. With both teams unbeaten in the competition so far, this promises to be a thrilling contest.
