Ukraine national team was eliminated even though it had 4 points after tying with Belgium national team, scoring 0-0 in the UEFA EURO 2024 Group Stage, Group E at Stuttgart Arena, Stuttgart.
Belgium, with a mission to secure three points and the top spot in the group, fielded a strong lineup featuring stars like Kevin De Bruyne, Leandro Trossard, and Romelu Lukaku. Lukaku had an early chance in the 7th minute, but his shot lacked power and was comfortably saved by Ukraine’s goalkeeper, Anatoliy Trubin.
The first half saw both teams playing an open game, creating opportunities but failing to convert them into goals. Ukraine defended resolutely while looking for chances to counter-attack.
The second half continued in a similar vein, with both teams pushing for a goal. Ukraine’s best opportunity came in the 74th minute when Artem Dovbyk’s shot was blocked by Belgian defender Wout Faes.
Despite the attacking efforts from both sides, the match ended in a 0-0 draw. Ukraine pressed hard for a winning goal in the final minutes, but Belgium’s defense held firm to ensure the draw.
The 0-0 draw resulted in Belgium advancing as the runners-up of Group E due to a better goal difference, setting up a knockout stage clash against France. Ukraine, despite finishing with 4 points, was eliminated due to the group’s tight competition and goal differential criteria.
In another Group E match, Romania and Slovakia also drew 1-1, both securing their places in the round of 16. Slovakia’s Ondrej Duda scored in the 24th minute, and Romania equalized through Razvan Marin in the 37th minute.
