Netherlands national team passed to the semi-final after beating Turkiye national team scoring 2-1 in the UEFA EURO 2024 Quarter-final at Olympiastadion, Berlin.
The knockout status of the big tournament makes this match so intense and not many goals can be produced like the previous two meetings in the qualifying round of the 2022 World Cup which saw 13 goals scored.
The addition of two young players, Arda Guler (Tukiye) and Xavi Simons (Netherlands) is another added value to this match.
Throughout the half hour of the game, Turkiye was seen trying to slow down the Dutch attack and preferred to play on the counter attack.
However, Vincenzo Montella’s men deserve credit for being able to contain the Dutch quite well and several times managed to test the opposition’s defense led by Virgil Van Dijk.
In the 35th minute, Guler once again highlighted the quality he has when he managed to create an interesting pass to be finished by Samet Akaydin to put Turkiye ahead 1-0 in the first half.
The script almost repeated itself in the second half, but the Dutch’s hard work finally paid off when they scored an equalizer through Stefan De Vrij in the 70th minute.
Six minutes after that, the pressure exerted by Cody Gakpo forced the Turkiye defender, Mert Muldur to make a mistake when he hit the ball into his own goal to ‘gift’ the second goal for The Oranje.
Although Turkiye continued to press for an equaliser, the Dutch defense was clearly ready to deny progress to the semi-finals.
