Peter Cklamovski, head coach of Malaysia national team has expressed his readiness to welcome new heritage players into the national squad if their eligibility is confirmed.
The Malaysian football scene has been abuzz with speculation over the potential inclusion of two overseas-based players—Jon Irazabal and Hector Hevel—who have been touted as possible reinforcements for the national team.
When questioned about their status, Cklamovski remained tight-lipped, stating that he has yet to receive any official updates regarding the duo’s eligibility.
“No update today. I’m not in a position to give an update today, sorry,” he told the media.
“I am not involved in the process, but I hope I can share news about it soon.”
Despite the uncertainty, the former FC Tokyo manager welcomed the idea of integrating new heritage players, emphasizing the potential benefits they could bring to Harimau Malaya.
“A lot is said about Malaysian (heritage) players abroad. From what I see, these players want to fight for Malaysia and want to wear the Malaysian jersey,” he said.
“If that happens, then they are in the running. If they show good performance, then the competition (for the starting XI) will also be good.”
With Malaysia preparing for their crucial 2027 Asian Cup Qualifier against Nepal on March 25, fans will be eager to see if any new faces join the squad in time for the campaign. For now, all eyes remain on the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) for any official announcements regarding Irazabal and Hevel.
