Malaysia head coach Peter Cklamovski has hinted that the Pestabola Merdeka tournament could serve as a crucial platform for building momentum ahead of the AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers in October and November.
“I won’t rule out the Merdeka Tournament,” said Cklamovski. “I think it’s a strong option. Once again, what’s more important is who we play — who we can challenge ourselves against.”
While no official confirmations have been made regarding opponents or the match format, Cklamovski emphasized that the coaching staff is in an active planning phase to maximize the upcoming FIFA window in September.
“Yes, for now, September is in planning mode in terms of finalizing matches, so there’s nothing concrete I can share at this stage,” he added.
“But we are working hard to secure the strongest opponents possible.”
Cklamovski reaffirmed that the primary focus for September is to continue shaping the identity and playing style of the national team — one that can make Malaysians proud and excited every time Harimau Malaya steps onto the pitch.
“We want September to be a turning point where the national team strengthens our style of play and continues to build pride across the country.”
