Malaysia’s rising mixed doubles pair, Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin, continued their remarkable run, advancing to the China Masters 2024 final after a thrilling victory over Hong Kong’s world No. 7 duo, Tang Chun Man-Tse Ying Suet, at the Shenzhen Sports Center.
This marks their second consecutive win against the Hong Kong pair, having previously defeated them at the Macau Open in September.
The Malaysians showcased their determination early on, taking the first set convincingly with a 21-14 scoreline. However, Tang Chun Man-Tse Ying Suet responded with an improved performance in the second set, narrowly winning 21-17 to force a deciding set.
In the third set, Hoo and Cheng demonstrated exceptional composure under pressure, managing a tight contest that was tied at 15-15 and 17-17 before clinching the match with a hard-fought 21-19 victory.
This victory secures Hoo Pang Ron and Cheng Su Yin a spot in their first-ever final at a BWF World Tour Super 750 event, a significant milestone in their burgeoning careers.
Their final opponents will be the tournament’s top seeds and world No. 1 pair, Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping, who defeated Malaysia’s other representatives, Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei, 21-18, 21-13 in the other semi-final.
The China Masters 2024, a prestigious Super 750 event on the BWF calendar, not only offers substantial cash prizes but also valuable ranking points. For Hoo and Cheng, this final is a golden opportunity to solidify their status among the world’s elite mixed doubles pairs.
