Azim Al Amin, goalkeeper Malaysia U23 national team has joined Selangor FC in the season 2024/25 after end of contract with Kuala Lumpur City.
Azim Al Amin or better known as Azim started his professional career with the Kuala Lumpur City FC team from the 2021 to 2023 season. This 23-year-old goalkeeper managed to break into the KL City FC main squad by making six appearances last season. In addition, Azim is also one of the individuals who has helped the Capital City squad advance to the 2023 FA Cup Final with his outstanding performance in the Semi-Final round of the competition.
Possessing the ability to keep the goal, this player’s name has become the talk of the town after showing an excellent performance for the national U23 squad against China U23 in a friendly match last December. Azim is also expected to line up the Harimau Muda squad as the main goalkeeper for the U23 Asian Cup tournament that will take place in Doha, Qatar, soon.
“I am grateful for being offered the opportunity to be with the Gergasi Merah club. I’m sure I can learn a lot from the other players, especially the team’s goalkeepers like Yan (Khairulazhan Khalid) and Sam (Samuel Somerville). I also hope that the high level of competition between us will further mature my playing style from time to time,” Azim said with Selangor FC.
Apart from Azim, the four new faces who will be with Selangor FC’s main squad are Selangor U23 captain last season, Faiz Amer (21 years old), midfielder Haiqal Haqeemi (21 years old), defender Aiman Hakimi (19 years old) and the youngest player in the squad country U23 years old, Muhammad Abu Khalil (19 years old). All four of them are key players in the Gergasi Merah U23 squad who were once called up to join the senior squad for two series of international friendly matches against Persiraja and PSIS Semarang in Indonesia in August 2023.
