Marc Marquez delivered another warning shot in the 2026 MotoGP title battle, claiming his third Tissot Sprint victory at MotorLand Aragon in a dramatic Saturday showdown.
The Ducati Lenovo Team rider produced a near-flawless performance to beat his brother Alex Marquez into second, while polesitter Marco Bezzecchi was forced to settle for third after losing the lead at the very first corner.
The result creates another major twist in the championship standings, with Bezzecchi now holding a 29-point advantage over Aprilia teammate Jorge Martin at the top of the table.
Bezzecchi made a strong getaway from pole position and initially appeared set to control the opening metres.
But Marc Marquez had other plans. The Ducati star attacked heavily under braking into Turn 1, diving up the inside to seize the lead.
Alex Marquez then capitalised on the move, going around the outside to take second and immediately forming an all-Márquez challenge against Bezzecchi.
The three riders quickly broke clear of the field. Behind them, the battle for fourth became equally important for the championship as Jorge Martin, Raul Fernandez and Pedro Acosta went head-to-head.
Acosta emerged from the early fight as the leader of the chasing group and briefly pulled away. Martin, however, refused to let the KTM rider escape.
The Aprilia star battled back and by Lap 3 had reclaimed fourth, restoring some control in the championship fight.
At the front, Marc was beginning to apply serious pressure on the rest of the field.
The gap to Alex remained just under one second, while Bezzecchi was hovering roughly half a second behind his Gresini rival.
Martin suffered a moment at the final corner on Lap 5, allowing Acosta to retake fourth.
That left the Aprilia rider once again chasing the KTM, while Diogo Moreira, Raul Fernandez and others battled over the positions behind.
As the Sprint entered its closing stages, Acosta began closing the gap to Bezzecchi.
The KTM rider looked increasingly dangerous and appeared capable of challenging for the podium.
But with only 11 laps available, he ran out of time. Marc Marquez remained calm at the front and crossed the finish line to claim another Sprint victory at a circuit where his record is already extraordinary.
It was his third Sprint win at Aragon, adding another milestone to his remarkable record at MotorLand.
Further down the field, Acosta finished fourth ahead of Martin. Fermin Aldeguer produced a late attack on the final lap to overtake Moreira and move into sixth.
The Brazilian rider therefore finished seventh. Raul Fernandez crossed the line eighth, while returning veteran Johann Zarco once again scored points with ninth.
Jack Miller completed the top 10 after narrowly holding off Zarco earlier in the fight.
It was another difficult Sprint for Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia, who could only manage 11th.
Even worse for Fabio Di Giannantonio, his Sprint ended in a crash.
The Italian was fortunate to escape injury and was reported to be okay following the incident.
The biggest implication from Saturday’s Sprint is the continuing movement at the top of the championship standings.
Bezzecchi remains the championship leader, but his advantage over Jorge Martin now stands at just 29 points.
Marc Marquez, meanwhile, continues to prove that he remains a major threat whenever the circuit suits him.
After dominating at Aragon once again, the Ducati rider has placed himself firmly in the conversation heading into Sunday’s full Grand Prix.
