Marco Bezzecchi spoiled what threatened to become a perfect Friday for the Márquez brothers at MotorLand Aragón, snatching the top spot with a stunning 1:45.455 as the lap record was broken three times during a dramatic opening day of the Spanish Grand Prix weekend.
The Aprilia Racing rider produced the fastest lap when it mattered most, edging Alex Márquez of BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP and home favourite Marc Márquez of Ducati Lenovo Team in a spectacular final 15 minutes.
The result gives Bezzecchi an early psychological victory at a circuit where Marc Márquez has historically been one of the dominant forces.

The seven-time MotoGP winner at Aragón led proceedings for the majority of the afternoon, building an advantage over championship rival Bezzecchi.
Fabio Di Giannantonio sat third after recovering from his earlier FP1 crash, setting himself up for a strong response.
But the calm disappeared when the final quarter-hour arrived.
As riders switched into full time-attack mode, the battle for direct passage into Q2 intensified dramatically.
Fermín Aldeguer was the first to make a major move, taking P1 away from Marc Márquez.
At the same time, Jorge Martín, Bezzecchi and Pedro Acosta all delivered rapid laps as the leading group pushed the limits.
Further down the order, Jack Miller suffered a frustrating moment at Turn 2.
The Australian crashed but immediately returned to his feet, rushing back to the garage in an attempt to make another run on his second bike.
Marc Márquez responded with a sensational 1:45.493, smashing the existing MotorLand Aragón lap record and once again demonstrating his exceptional pace around the circuit.
His brother Alex then came within a few hundredths of the previous record, although he remained 0.273 seconds away from the top position with five minutes remaining.
The Aprilia star produced another extraordinary lap to stop the Márquez momentum, taking P1 by just 0.038 seconds over Marc.
With the clock running down, Alex Márquez launched one final attack.
He managed to beat his brother Marc, but could not find enough time to overthrow Bezzecchi.
The Aprilia rider’s 1:45.455 ultimately stood as the fastest lap of Friday.
Behind the headline trio, Di Giannantonio held fourth after resisting a late challenge from Aldeguer.
Raúl Fernández completed the top six for the Trackhouse Aprilia project.
Championship leader Jorge Martín had briefly climbed as high as second but eventually settled for seventh, one place ahead of Acosta.
Franco Morbidelli secured ninth, while one of the most impressive performances of the day came from Johann Zarco.
Returning from a three-month absence, the LCR Honda CASTROL rider produced an exceptional lap to finish 10th and secure direct passage into Q2.
There was disappointment for several major names outside the top 10.
Diogo Moreira finished 11th, missing direct Q2 qualification by just 0.010 seconds to Zarco.
Double world champion Francesco Bagnaia made a mistake on his final flying lap and could only manage 13th.
The Ducati rider was followed by 2021 World Champion Fabio Quartararo, who finished as the fastest Yamaha rider on the day.
