Thailand’s national futsal team qualified for the quarter-finals after defeating Oman’s futsal national team 6-1 in the AFC Futsal Asian Cup 2022 group stage group A at Saad Al-Abdullah Stadium Hall, Kuwait City.
Thailand came into the tie needing just a draw to advance to the knockout stage, while Oman were looking for their first win after losing both their earlier games.
Tournament debutants Oman were on the backfoot from the start with Thailand’s Suphawut Thueanklang threatening in the first minute when he did well on the turn to lose his marker but his effort from inside the box was way off the mark.
Oman, however, almost surprised Thailand in the third minute when Ali Ibrahim dispossessed Suphawut deep in their defensive half but fired his effort just above the bar.
Thailand continued to threaten with Panut Kittipanuwong testing Oman keeper Hisham Abdullah from distance before they opened the scoring in the fourth minute following Warut Wangsama-Aeo’s drilled effort.
Oman continued to frustrate their opponents with Mohammed Ahmed Taqi clearing Jetsada Chudech’s initial effort before Hisham Abdullah intervened to stop the Thai’s follow-up.
Despite Oman’s best efforts to contain their opponents, Thailand doubled their advantage in the 16th minute with Jetsada finishing off Warut’s corner.
Thailand scored two quick goals in the 19th minute with Worasak Srirangpirot doing well on the turn before drilling his effort past keeper Hisham Abdullah while Charoondej Muenthiang’s shot was deflected onto the path of Sarawut Phalaphruek for an easy finish.
Oman succeeded in keeping their opponents at bay at the start of the second half but conceded a fifth when Narongsak Wingwon struck in the 28th minute, finishing a flowing team move.
Despite the huge deficit, Oman continued to apply pressure and their approach paid off in the 34th minute with Taqi converting Ali Ibrahim’s cross from the left flank.
There was, however, still time for a sixth for Thailand with Warut bursting down the left flank on the counter-attack in the 38th minute before sending a sublime cross to Narongsak to score close range.
