Kedah Darul Aman FC announced in an official statement confirmed denies tax arrears and will take legal action after allegations from the media about this.
The issue was revealed by a sports journalist via Twitter and became a hot debate among fans.
According to him, the decline of the Kedah team is related to the issue of tax arrears which affects the movement of coaches and players abroad.
However, Khamal Idris Haji Ali Chief Executive Officer of KDA FC said in an official statement strongly denied the tax arrears and will take legal action to clear the name and image of KDA. A notice of claim for defamatory statements will be submitted in the near future.
“KDA FC refers to a tweet by the username @zulhelmizainal1 (Zulhelmi Zainal Azam) made today 10 October 2022, Monday at 4.33 pm. He is widely known as a sports journalist from Astro Arena.
KDA FC strongly denies his allegations and will take legal action to clear the name and image of KDA FC. A notice of claim for defamatory statements will be submitted in the near future.
Through his agency, 1 copy of the document with the letterhead from the Inland Revenue Board to Kedah Darul Aman FC dated 24 August 2022 regarding Scheduled Tax Deductions (PCB) 2021 to 2022. This confidential document obtained illegally has given a bad impression to the next club without comprehensive facts regarding the contents of the letter. Only one page was shared by the journalist.
KDA FC always looks after the welfare of the players and is always responsible for all responsibilities including the payment of wages and income tax.
For information, the letter shared by a journalist named Zulhelmi Zainal Azam should only be in the possession of the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) and Kedah Darul Aman FC regarding the tax payment settlement schedule and not outstanding until today and a copy to the Malaysian Football League (MFL) as notification of tax payment scheduling and not overdue to the MFL Licensing Body to meet next year’s licensing requirements.
KDA FC is deeply saddened by the dissemination of the confidential document without permission and the summary made by the journalist has given a negative perception to the club’s management and the image of the state of Kedah. This unauthorized dissemination is a form of betrayal and malicious intent and KDA FC will make a complaint to the IRB and MFL and conduct an internal investigation to ensure that confidential documents do not become a weapon of the enemy who try to give KDA FC a bad image.
KDA FC will monitor all media that use journalist Zulhelmi Zainal Azam’s source as a headline and all content of reports and writings regarding this issue on social media and print media will be subject to legal action.
KDA FC greatly appreciates and respects the duty of a sports journalist in getting news but all parties need to be aware that freedom in writing is not absolute but subject to legal action.”
