Selangor Asia Challenge 2024 will come back to hold a second edition again on 26 and 28 April 2024 at MBPJ Stadium, Petaling Jaya.
This tournament was held by Selangor FC, a club in Liga Super Malaysia and have 3 clubs from 3 countries in the ASEAN region participated Balestier Khalsa from Singapore, DPMM FC from Brunei Darussalam, and Young Elephants FC from Laos.
The match format used for this tournament will be slightly different from the previous edition, whereby every win will earn the team 3 points, while the team will earn an additional point for every goal scored. The team that leads the group table in the end will be crowned champion of the tournament.
If two or more teams are tied in first place after all matches are played, the position of the teams will be determined by tie breakers, whereby:
- The team that gets the most points in all matches, will be crowned as SAC 2024 champion; if points are equal,
- The team with the most goal difference in all matches will be crowned as SAC 2024 champion; or,
- If there are two (2) or more teams with the same points, and the same goal difference, the SAC 2024 champion will be determined by ‘fairplay’.
All matches will be played at the Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya (MBPJ) Stadium, Kelana Jaya, at 5.00 pm and 9.00 pm on the 26th of April and 28th of April 2024.
In addition, various interesting activities will be held such as the official Selangor FC 2024/25 squad announcement, performances by local artists, Raya Bazaar, Raya workshop and a lot more that will be organised throughout the tournament for the Red Giants supporters.
The Chief Executive Officer of Selangor FC, Dr Johan Kamal Hamidon said the Selangor Asia Challenge 2024 will serve the same purpose for all competing teams, especially Selangor FC, which is to give exposure to play with clubs from other ASEAN countries.
“Selangor FC is very excited to be able to host the second edition of the Selangor Asia Challenge tournament. The management is trying to give wide exposure to the team so that they can have a good preseason preparation this season. We have invited teams from ASEAN countries namely Balestier Khalsa FC, Duli Pengiran Muda Mahkota FC (DPMM FC) and Young Elephants FC, three teams that had good achievements last season. On top of that, this is the opportunity for the supporters to watch the team play in competitive and quality preseason matches.”
Like the previous edition, Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd has been appointed once again as the official broadcasting partner for the SAC 2024 tournament.
Selangor Asia Challenge was held for the first time in 2020 at Shah Alam Stadium, and True Bangkok United from Thailand is the champion.
