Sri Pahang FC pass to final after winning Sabah FC after extra time scoring 2-1 in the Unifi Piala Malaysia 2024/25 semi-final 2nd leg at Stadium MPT, Temerloh.
Both teams displayed solid defensive strategies in the first half, creating opportunities but failing to break the deadlock. Despite Sri Pahang pressing harder, Sabah’s resolute defense kept the scoreboard clean, leading to a 0-0 draw at halftime.
The cautious approach continued after the break, with both Fandi Ahmad and Martin Stano making key substitutions to shake up their attacking dynamics. However, disciplined defending and impressive goalkeeping denied multiple scoring chances.
The deadlock was broken in the 72nd minute when an own goal by Sabah’s substitute Park Tae-su put Sri Pahang ahead. The intense pressure from Sri Pahang forced the defensive error.
Just four minutes later, Sabah responded with an equalizer. Joao Pedro’s precise pass found S. Kumaahran, who coolly slotted the ball home, sending the match into extra time.
In the 107th minute, Kpah Sherman delivered the decisive blow for Sri Pahang. His well-timed strike sealed the 2-1 victory, securing their spot in the final.
With this win, Martin Stano’s men have earned a chance to compete for the prestigious Malaysia Cup title. They will face defending champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) in what promises to be a thrilling final.
Sri Pahang’s resilience and determination at Temerloh Stadium have set the stage for an epic conclusion to the 2024/25 Malaysia Cup campaign.
