Malaysia Men’s Badminton national team has a good start after beating Hong Kong Men’s Badminton national team 5-0 pairs in the Thomas Cup 2024 Group stage, Group D matchday 1 at Hi-Tech Zone Sports Centre Gymnasium, Chengdu.
Malaysia started fiercely through the men’s singles champion, Lee Zii Jia who beat Lee Cheuk Yiu in straight sets 21-18, 21-18.
The victory also fueled the spirit of other teammates when men’s doubles, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik contributed the second point by beating Law Cheuk Him-Yeung Shing Choi 21-16, 21-12.
Hong Kong tried to narrow the position through the second singles, Ng Ka Long, but succumbed to a 21-17, 12-21, 15-21 defeat to Leong Jun Hao, thus becoming a winning point for Malaysia.
After Jun Hao confirmed Malaysia’s victory, the second doubles, Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani added to Hong Kong’s suffering when they contributed the nation’s fourth point by defeating Lee Chun Hei-Tang Chun Man 21-19, 21-18.
Then, in the third singles, Justin Hoh proved his ability by completing a clean 5-0 win over Hong Kong when he defeated Chan Yin Chak 21-17, 19-21, 21-17.
The opening action of Group D is considered very important for Malaysia to ensure that the team is one step into the quarter-finals ahead of the second match against Algeria tomorrow.
