Malaysia U19 Futsal head coach Rakphol Sainetngam has underlined that development — not results — remains the primary focus for his squad ahead of the ASEAN U19 Boys Futsal Championship 2025.
Speaking during the pre-match press conference, Rakphol admitted that preparation time for the tournament was limited, but stressed that the championship presents a valuable platform for young players to gain their first taste of international football.
“Our preparation with the Under-19 players has been quite short. I worked with the players for one week, and after that the training was continued by my assistant,” said Rakphol.
“For this tournament, the most important thing is to give exposure and experience to the players. We cannot place expectations on results. I have told the players to enjoy the tournament and take this opportunity to learn.”
Rakphol revealed that most members of the Malaysia U19 squad have never played an international match, making the ASEAN championship a crucial stepping stone in their development journey.
“Many of my players have never played at international level before. In this tournament, we want to give them something special — a chance to experience the intensity and atmosphere of international futsal,” he explained.
The Thai tactician also expressed his appreciation to the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) and Football Association of Thailand, highlighting the importance of regional youth competitions in nurturing future talent.
“I want to thank AFF and FA Thailand because this tournament is very important for young players. It helps develop futsal players across Southeast Asia, not only in Malaysia but in all participating countries.”
While downplaying expectations, Rakphol remains optimistic that the tournament will play a key role in strengthening Malaysia’s futsal pipeline.
“This will be a very good experience for our players and for the future of the national team. We hope to do well and continue supporting the development of Malaysian futsal.”
As Malaysia prepare to begin their ASEAN U19 Boys Futsal Championship campaign, the focus is clear — growth, experience and long-term progress, rather than immediate success.
ASEAN U19 Boys Futsal Championship 2025 will be held at Nonthaburi PAO Gymnasium, Nonthaburi from 23-29 December 2025.
