After much anticipation, Johor Racing (JMR) has announced Chevrolet as its new constructor for the 2025 season.
HH Tunku Abdul Rahman Al-Haj Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, Tunku Panglima of Johor (Prince Jefri Ibrahim), and HH Tunku Abu Bakar Al-Haj, Tunku Putera of Johor (Prince Abu Bakar Ibrahim), will be racing the Corvette Z06 GT3.R this year.
Mark Stielow, Director of Chevrolet Motorsports Competition Program, expressed his excitement in welcoming JMR as a Corvette Z06 GT3.R customer team.
“We are excited to watch and support Prince Jefri, Prince Abu Bakar, and all of JMR throughout the season.
We are also pleased to see the growing interest in our Corvette GT3 worldwide and look forward to building this relationship with JMR. This partnership provides additional exposure and opportunities not just for Corvette Racing but also for the Corvette brand in new markets,” he said.
HH Tunku Abdul Rahman, a Red Bull athlete, JMR Team President, and Principal Driver, shared his enthusiasm for this new chapter in the team’s journey.
“I still remember the moment I first walked into the GM (General Motors) HQ in Detroit for a visit. Their facility is incredible, and I was really impressed with what I saw. Everyone from the GM family was so welcoming.
I can’t wait to get started this season and work closely with our new manufacturer. We are proud to be the first team running the Z06 in the region, especially with two cars this season. Hopefully, this marks the beginning of a long and successful collaboration.”
Since debuting in 2019 in collaboration with Triple Eight Race Engineering and Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing, JMR has achieved commendable success, securing three championships and 53 podium finishes.
The team’s most successful year to date was in 2022, when it won the GT World Challenge Asia Team Championship and the Pro-Am Drivers’ Championship (HH Tunku Abdul Rahman), as well as the GT Australia Endurance Championship.
HH Tunku Abdul Rahman also finished as Pro-Am Vice Champion in the 2021 GT World Challenge Australia and the 2024 Asian Le Mans Series, while his younger brother, HH Tunku Abu Bakar, emerged as Drivers’ Vice Champion in the 2023 GT World Challenge Asia—an impressive feat in his debut season.
