The controversy surrounding the dramatic conclusion of the 2026 ISTAF Sepaktakraw World Cup final between Thailand and Malaysia has taken a significant step toward resolution after the International Sepaktakraw Federation (ISTAF) and the Thailand Sepaktakraw Association (TAT) released a joint statement reaffirming their commitment to an independent, transparent and fair investigation.
The statement, issued on 30 May 2026, comes in response to widespread debate, media coverage and public reaction following the incident during Match 69 of the World Cup team event, where Thailand’s decision to walk off the court sparked one of the biggest controversies in recent international Sepaktakraw history.
Both governing bodies acknowledged the intense discussions surrounding the incident but stressed that the matter must be handled strictly according to ISTAF’s constitution, competition regulations and disciplinary procedures.
The Thailand Sepaktakraw Association expressed full respect for ISTAF’s authority as the sport’s global governing body and confirmed its willingness to cooperate throughout the review process.
Thailand Sepaktakraw Association President Mr. Thana Chaiprasit emphasized his confidence in ISTAF’s investigative framework, describing it as independent, professional and free from external influence.
According to the statement, all relevant evidence, official reports, testimonies and recommendations will be carefully reviewed before any disciplinary decision is made.
ISTAF Secretary General Dato’ Abdul Halim Kader reiterated the federation’s commitment to protecting the integrity of Sepaktakraw while ensuring all parties receive a fair opportunity to present their positions.
The federation stressed that no conclusions should be drawn until the investigation has been completed and all facts have been assessed.
The joint statement also urged athletes, officials, supporters and media organizations to avoid speculation or premature judgments that could undermine the integrity of the ongoing process.
In a move designed to strengthen transparency and accountability, ISTAF confirmed that the issue would be formally presented to its Executive Committee during its scheduled meeting on 30 May 2026.
The involvement of the Executive Committee is expected to provide additional oversight and ensure that any future actions comply fully with federation regulations and governance principles.
ISTAF stated that the committee will receive a comprehensive briefing on all developments related to the incident before any further steps are considered.
The latest joint statement signals a notable effort from both ISTAF and TAT to reduce tensions and restore confidence within the international Sepaktakraw community.
Rather than escalating the dispute through public exchanges, both organizations have emphasized institutional procedures and due process as the appropriate path forward.
With potential disciplinary outcomes still under review, attention now turns to the findings of the investigation and the decisions that could shape the future of the teams and officials involved.
For now, ISTAF and TAT remain aligned in one message: the future of Sepaktakraw must be guided by fairness, transparency and respect for the sport’s established regulations.
