Iran’s national team, the no. 1 team in Asia, made a surprise after overturning Uruguay’s national team ranked 13th in the world with a score of 1-0 in a friendly match at the NV Arena in Sankt Polten, Austria.
This match is the first match of Carlos Queiroz, the Portuguese head coach who has been re-assigned to this position after resigning since 2019.
Iran got a victory goal from Mehdi Taremi in the 79th minute of the match, and for Uruguay, the team tasted its first defeat under the head coach of Diego Alonso.
Uruguay had won six victories and one draw in their last seven matches (four matches in the World Cup qualifying round and three preparatory matches) but lost to the Iran national team.
