Hazwan Bakri, a 33-year-old winger, has joined Kuching City for the second leg of the Liga Super Malaysia 2024/25 season.
After his contract with Johor Darul Ta’Zim (JDT) expired at the end of the 2023 season, Hazwan became a free agent.
His journey to Kuching City comes after a long recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, which he sustained during the final Super League match of the 2023 season between JDT and Penang FC.
Hazwan focused on his recovery before seeking a new club, and his move to Kuching City has been warmly welcomed by the club’s supporters, known as The Cats.
Fans believe that Hazwan, affectionately called Jack, can significantly bolster the team’s attacking force. He will be competing with the likes of Tchetche Kipre, Pedro Henrique, Amirrul Iqmal Bolhi, and the team’s top scorer, Jordan Mintah, for a spot in the attacking lineup.
Hazwan’s versatility, being able to play both as a winger and a striker, offers more tactical options for coach Aidil Sharin Sahak.
His wealth of experience as a cup winner with both Selangor and JDT, as well as his international appearances for Malaysia with 32 caps and seven goals.
