Malaysian shuttlers experienced a day of mixed results in the Round of 32 at the Yonex Internationaux de France 2025 (HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750), with men’s doubles pair Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun advancing confidently, while two other pairs bowed out after strong fights.
Malaysia’s seventh-seeded duo Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun delivered a commanding performance against South Korea’s Kang Min Hyuk / Ki Dong Ju, sealing a 2–0 (21–9, 21–13) victory in just 35 minutes.
The pair showcased dominance from start to finish, controlling rallies with precise placements and quick front-court interceptions. Their victory marks an encouraging start to their French Open campaign as they target another deep run following their recent semifinal appearance at the Arctic Open.
“We felt very comfortable today and stuck to our plan. The conditions suit us here, and we’re looking forward to the next round,” said Man Wei Chong after the match.
In mixed doubles, Wong Tien Ci and Lim Chiew Sien put up a spirited fight but were unable to overcome the Thai third seeds Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai, going down 17–21, 17–21.
Despite matching the world-class Thais in long exchanges, the Malaysians struggled to convert key points at the closing stages of both games. The result ends their campaign, but the pair will take positives from their competitive showing against top-ranked opposition.
Meanwhile, in men’s doubles, Azriyn Ayub and veteran Tan Wee Kiong faced a tough challenge against England’s Ben Lane and Sean Vendy, losing 14–21, 13–21.
The English pair’s sharp attacking play and superior mid-court control limited the Malaysians’ chances to build momentum. Despite the exit, the match offered valuable international exposure for Azriyn, who continues to develop under the guidance of the experienced Tan.
