Malaysian Football League (MFL) announced that Financial Fair Play (FFP) would be implemented in the Malaysian League 2024/25 season.
Since FFP was announced to be implemented in the League for 2024 and the following season, an in-depth study has been carried out by the MFL Club Licensing Unit to adapt FFP to the domestic football ecosystem and refer FFP to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
As a result of the study, a system adapted to the requirements of the Malaysian League for the implementation of the FFP was agreed by the MFL Board of Directors at a meeting held on 6 March 2024.
The first year of FFP in the Malaysian League is seen as an introductory year to monitor the payment of player and official salaries which is the main issue faced in the league as well as increase the club’s responsibility in ensuring strong financial stability.
Once the documentation submission process and monitoring procedures implemented have been adapted by the Malaysia League clubs, from year 2 onwards, the MFL will continue to monitor and implement prudent income and expenditure rules to ensure the long-term sustainability of the clubs.
The MFL hosted the first online FFP briefing session with all clubs on April 25 and shared the FFP requirements for the 2024-2025 season. This session was also attended by the Chairman of MFL FFP, Tn Sheikh Mohd Nasir Sheikh Mohd Sharif.
Following this session, further physical workshops will be organized in the near future to discuss the new FFP rules that will be implemented for the 2025-2026 season.
