Football Association of Singapore (FAS) is once again searching for a 10th club to compete in the Singapore Premier League (SPL).
FAS president Bernard Tan announced at a press conference following the 42nd FAS Congress that the association will issue a request for proposal next month, inviting both local and foreign clubs to apply.
By potentially including foreign teams, FAS aims to broaden the league’s fan base and commercial appeal.
According to Mr. Tan, increasing the number of clubs would make the league more vibrant and competitive, setting higher benchmarks for development.
“The whole aim of growing the league is first of all to … make it a lot more interesting. More teams will make the league more vibrant,” Mr. Tan said.
“Having more foreign teams will also set different benchmarks for where people are, and allow us to also make sure that we develop along with those lines.”
The goal is for the new club to join the SPL for the 2025/26 season.
