Netherlands national team advanced to the Quarter-Final round after beating Romania national team scoring 3-0 in the UEFA EURO 2024 round of 16 at Munich Football Arena, Munich.
Liverpool striker Cody Gakpo grabbed the spotlight, emerging as the tournament’s top scorer alongside Germany’s Jamal Musiala, Georgia’s Georges Mikautadze, and Slovakia’s Ivan Schranz, each with three goals.
While the Netherlands dominated possession, Romania showcased their determination and fighting spirit, proving they deserved to be in the knockout stage. However, individual brilliance made the difference in the 20th minute when Gakpo displayed his agility and scored the opening goal.
In the 62nd minute, Gakpo’s shot was saved by Romanian goalkeeper Florin Nita. A minute later, he found the net again, but the goal was disallowed by referee Felix Zwayer for offside.
Despite Romania’s efforts to equalize, the Netherlands added a second goal in the 83rd minute through Donyell Malen. Malen sealed Romania’s fate with a third goal from a counterattack during injury time, ending their fight.
The Netherlands’ victory secured their place in the quarter-finals, showcasing their strong performance and Gakpo’s standout contributions to the team’s success.
