Manuel Ott, a midfielder of Terengganu FC described such a style of play that he and his teammates liked with a free style of play as the main recipe for the success of Terengganu FC when they defeated Sabah FC in the Piala FA Malaysia 2024/25 quarter-final first leg, last Friday.
“When facing Sabah, we enjoyed the match by practicing a free style of play where we did not stay static in our positions only. Instead, the coach asked us to exchange positions,” Ott said.
“I’m happy with this style of play, and so are my teammates. I’m even happier when I managed to score the opening goal in addition to two assists.
“For me, the big win was because we played with such style without any pressure, other than the solid support of over 15,000 fans in attendance.”
Ott emphasized the importance of the fans’ support and noted that the significant victory provides a comfortable advantage heading into the return match. However, he acknowledged that there is still room for improvement:
“The big win is a comfortable supply before facing the return match this weekend, but there is still a lot to improve when we meet Sabah later.
“We can’t take it for granted, especially knowing the strength of the opposing team, which is lined up with many national players. Additionally, the Super League has just started, and it will definitely be a difficult match later.”
Ott expressed confidence in his teammates and the coaching staff, highlighting their determination to reach the final stage again, as they did in 2022:
“I believe in my teammates, who will definitely come out with a high fighting spirit, in addition to planning from the coaching line. Our goal is to bring TFC to the final stage again like in 2022.
“It’s a good experience, and it’s every player’s dream to play on the final stage. We’ll give our best this Saturday.”
