Malaysia U19 national team made good performance in the first match after beating Brunei DS U19 national team scoring 11-0 in the ASEAN U19 Boys Championship 2024 Group Stage, Group C at Gelora 10 November Stadium, Surabaya.

Malaysia as the defending champion of the 2022 edition is seen as the favorite team for this match. Meanwhile, Brunei also hopes to restrain Juan Torres Garrido’s men from achieving a big win.

Tabuan Muda’s wish not to concede early was not fulfilled when G. Pavithran scored the first goal as early as the second minute.

Ridzwan Rosli dribbled several Brunei players before slotting the ball into the penalty box. The ball was easily rejected by Pavithran who beat the goalkeeper, Mohd Waie Haziq Wardun.

Harimau Muda is more comfortable in front through Abid Safaraz Rozaidi in the 15th minute. Abid easily headed Danial Mohd Nor’s corner kick which hit the corner of the net.

The 17-year-old forward’s potential was even more evident when he unleashed a powerful shot from outside the penalty box a minute later.

Malaysia became more dominant by scoring the fourth goal through Danish Hakimi Sahaludin in the 25th minute. Danish fired a shot from outside the penalty box that Waie Haziq failed to block.

Garrido’s men added through Haykal Danish Mohd Haizon and Pavithran in the 42nd and 44th minutes respectively. The result remained 6-0 until the half-time break.\

Continuing in the second half, Malaysia continued to double their efforts to have a goal advantage to lead Group C.

Malaysia was awarded a penalty kick after Philippine referee Clifford Daypuyat detected a foul on a national player in the penalty box. The penalty was easily completed by Izzat Syahir Mohd Zulihsan in the 51st minute.

Malaysia became more dominant by scoring the eighth goal in the 66th minute through Amir Farhan Mohd Fuzi. With an eight-goal lead, this gave Garrido room to make some substitutions.

The country’s young squad continued to extend their advantage through Zamirul Hakim Mohamad Khair in the 73rd minute.

A communication error involving Tabuan Muda’s defense opened up space for Abid to score a hat trick in the 79th minute. Shafizan Arshad added Harimau Muda’s 11th goal through a simple push in the 81st minute.

The 11-0 result ensures that Malaysia leads Group C with a huge goal advantage. After this, the national squad will face Singapore on July 22.
