Saudi Pro League giants Al Nassr FC have officially appointed Ange Postecoglou as the club’s new head coach, with the experienced Australian signing a two-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2028.
The appointment marks the beginning of a new era for Al Nassr following the departure of Jorge Jesus, who left the club despite guiding the Riyadh-based side to the Saudi Pro League title last season.
Al Nassr confirmed Postecoglou’s arrival through an official statement on Friday, unveiling the 60-year-old as the man tasked with leading the club into the 2026/27 campaign.
The club welcomed its new manager with the message:
“A new chapter begins. Mr. Ange Postecoglou is the new head coach of Al Nassr’s first football team on a two-year contract. We wish him and his coaching staff every success on their journey with Al Nassr.”
The announcement concludes weeks of speculation surrounding the club’s search for a new manager, with several high-profile names linked to the position before Al Nassr finalized the appointment of the Australian tactician.
Postecoglou returns to coaching after a nine-month absence following his dismissal from Nottingham Forest in October last year, just over a month after taking charge of the English club.
Despite that brief spell, the Australian remains one of the most respected coaches in world football, having built an impressive managerial résumé across multiple continents.
His coaching career includes successful stints with the Australia national football team between 2013 and 2017, Japanese club Yokohama F. Marinos, Scottish champions Celtic FC, and Tottenham Hotspur FC from 2023 to 2025.
Known for his attacking philosophy and high-intensity style of play, Postecoglou now faces the challenge of translating that success to Saudi Arabia with one of Asia’s most ambitious clubs.
Al Nassr had been linked with several elite coaches in recent weeks, including Roberto Martínez, the current Portugal national team manager, before ultimately placing their faith in Postecoglou.
The Australian inherits a squad packed with international stars and will be expected to maintain domestic success while strengthening Al Nassr’s challenge on the continental stage.
With a proven track record of rebuilding teams and delivering trophies, Postecoglou now embarks on arguably one of the biggest challenges of his managerial career as he aims to guide Al Nassr into another successful chapter.
