Al-Ahli clinched the Saudi Super Cup 2025 title in dramatic fashion on Saturday, defeating Al-Nassr 5-3 on penalties after a pulsating 2-2 draw, as Cristiano Ronaldo marked his 100th goal for the Riyadh giants in a bittersweet evening.
The 40-year-old Portuguese icon gave Al-Nassr the lead in the 40th minute, calmly converting from the spot after Ali Majrashi was penalised for handball. The milestone strike cemented Ronaldo’s legacy in Saudi football, but it ultimately wasn’t enough to secure silverware.
Asian Champions League holders Al-Ahli responded in first-half stoppage time. Former Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessie latched onto a clever pass from new signing Enzo Millot, finishing low past goalkeeper Bento to level the score.
The second half produced end-to-end drama. Ronaldo forced Edouard Mendy into a sharp save, while Firas Al-Buraikan rattled the post for Al-Ahli. With the game finely balanced, Marcelo Brozovic restored Al-Nassr’s advantage in the 82nd minute, pouncing on a poor clearance inside the box.
But just when Al-Nassr looked set for victory, Al-Ahli struck back. In the 89th minute, Roger Ibanez rose highest to head home a Riyad Mahrez corner after Bento misjudged his catch, dragging the tie into penalties.
In the shootout, Al-Ahli were flawless, converting all five of their spot-kicks. Although Ronaldo scored his penalty, one Al-Nassr miss proved decisive, handing the Jeddah-based side their second Saudi Super Cup crown.
The triumph adds yet another trophy to Al-Ahli’s glittering campaign, while Ronaldo’s century of goals remains a personal milestone overshadowed by collective disappointment.
