Marc Marquez is set to make his highly anticipated return to MotoGP action at the Italian Grand Prix in Mugello after missing the last two rounds through injury.
The reigning MotoGP World Champion and Ducati Lenovo Team rider has successfully passed an important medical evaluation and is now preparing for Ducati’s home race weekend in Italy.
Marquez had been sidelined following injuries sustained during the French Grand Prix weekend at Le Mans, where he suffered a foot fracture during the Sprint race. The Spaniard also underwent a second surgery on a pre-existing shoulder issue, a procedure that had already been scheduled before the Le Mans incident.
Despite the setbacks, Marquez’s recovery has progressed positively and Ducati confirmed he is now expected to return to the grid at Mugello pending one final fitness assessment on Thursday.
“Following a positive medical check, Marc Márquez will travel to Mugello tomorrow,” Ducati said in an official statement.
“He is scheduled for a final trackside assessment on Thursday to secure the fit-to-race clearance for the Italian GP.”
Marquez’s return comes as a major boost for Ducati ahead of one of the most important weekends of the season for the Italian manufacturer.
The six-time MotoGP World Champion has been one of the standout riders of the 2026 campaign before injury interrupted his momentum, and his comeback immediately strengthens Ducati’s title ambitions heading into the Mugello round.
The Italian Grand Prix also marks a symbolic return for Marquez after enduring a difficult recovery period involving two separate surgeries in quick succession.
Although Ducati remain optimistic, Marquez must still complete a final medical inspection trackside on Thursday before receiving official clearance to ride.
If approved, the Spaniard will return to the bike during Friday morning’s opening practice session at the iconic Mugello Circuit.
