Global sportswear giant Adidas has officially revealed the away kits for its 25 partner national federations, including 13 teams already qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking a major design revival ahead of football’s biggest tournament.
The new collection blends modern performance technology with retro football culture, highlighted by the return of the iconic Trefoil logo—a symbol of originality rarely seen on federation kits for the past three decades.
Each away jersey draws inspiration from the unique culture and heritage of its nation, incorporating design elements inspired by landscapes, architecture, historical motifs and artistic traditions. The designs reinterpret classic FIFA World Cup aesthetics—such as geometric patterns and stylised vertical lines—through a contemporary lens.
According to Sam Handy, General Manager of Football at adidas, the launch represents a symbolic moment in global football culture.
“As we approach an immense World Cup across three incredible host nations, it felt like the perfect moment to bring the Trefoil back to the biggest stage in world football,” said Handy.
“Football culture today reaches far beyond the pitch. These designs honour each country while creating jerseys that connect with fans in stadiums, streets and communities.”
Beyond the aesthetics, the kits are engineered for elite performance. The jerseys feature CLIMACOOL+ technology, allowing faster sweat-wicking and improved cooling—crucial for matches played across varied climates in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Additional innovations include:
- Body-mapped mechanical stretch fabrics for better mobility
- Lightweight jacquard materials for enhanced comfort
- Classic three-stripe shoulder design with herringbone stitching to improve breathability
These features ensure players remain comfortable and agile during high-intensity matches at the 2026 tournament.
Among the standout kits unveiled are those for several football powerhouses:
- Argentina – A swirling blue artistic pattern inspired by traditional Argentine motifs, with the Sol de Mayo sun symbol featured on the back collar.
- Germany – Navy-blue chevron graphics reflecting different eras of German football heritage, including references to classic training kits from the 1950s through the 1990s.
- Japan – A striking design incorporating 12 vibrant colours, symbolising unity within the nation and its supporters.
- Mexico – Architectural patterns inspired by ancient Aztec “Grecas” motifs, celebrating Mexico’s deep cultural heritage.
- Spain – Literary-inspired graphics referencing historic manuscripts, with gold and burgundy accents.
To celebrate the launch, adidas hosted an immersive event in Downtown Los Angeles, transforming the Lower Grand Tunnel into a vibrant football street festival.
The event—curated by creative collective pgLang—featured performances from acclaimed artists Kaytranada and Baby Keem, blending football, music and street culture in a unique celebration of the game.
All adidas federation away jerseys will be available globally starting 20 March, both online and through selected retail stores.
With the Trefoil returning to international kits and the designs reflecting both heritage and innovation, adidas has set the tone for what promises to be one of the most culturally vibrant World Cups in history at the 2026 tournament.
