Hector Bidoglio, head coach of Johor Darul Ta’Zim expressed his delight following his team’s commanding 3-0 victory over Shanghai Shenhua in the AFC Champions League Elite 2024/25 League Stage (East Zone) at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium last night.
Goals from Arif Aiman Hanapi and Jorge Obregon in the first half, along with a stunning free kick from Juan Muniz, sealed a comprehensive win against the reigning Chinese FA Cup 2023 champions.
“I am very happy because the players played well and ran throughout the game. We played as a team, constantly moving the ball from left to right, and managed to showcase the potential of this team in the tournament,” said Bidoglio, visibly pleased with his squad’s performance.
He also thanked everyone involved with the club, particularly the fans, who were instrumental in lifting the team’s spirits throughout the match. “The supporters were fantastic today, and the players brought them joy with their hard work and this victory,” he added during the post-match press conference.
Beyond the victory, the Argentine manager highlighted JDT’s growing stature in Asian football, noting the club’s ability to compete with the continent’s top sides. “All the games are difficult because we have a long season, but we have a complete squad. Today, we proved that we are getting better in Asia,” Bidoglio stated.
With this win, JDT now sits in second place in the East Asia Zone standings after two matches. Bidoglio also commended Oscar Arribas, who continues to adapt well to the team’s dynamic. “Oscar is a versatile and intelligent player. He understands the tactical requirements and is comfortable playing with anyone on the field,” said the coach.
JDT will look to maintain their momentum as they prepare to face Gwangju FC away on October 22, 2024, in their next AFC Champions League fixture.
