Zhafri Yahya, midfielder of Kuala Lumpur City age 27 was finally called to Malaysia national team to the central training camp under Kim Pan-gon today.
According to an official statement from FAM, Zhafri’s name was previously on the waiting list and he was chosen to replace Darren Lok, striker PJ City who had to be dropped due to being confirmed infected COVID-19.
“Darren was present to report yesterday, but was found positive after the RTK test made when the player reported and was confirmed again through a PCR test whose results were obtained this morning.” official FAM statement said.
“Although Darren is in a striking position, Zhafri is listed to allow the coaching panel to review his ability to compose moves from the corners of the midfield,”
Zhafri played a key role in KL City’s success last season. However, he was not called up to represent the national squad for the AFF Suzuki Cup 2020 competition which was held in December 2021 to January 2022.
