Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, Regent of Johor and Owner of Johor Darul Ta’zim, addressed fans following the club’s AFC Champions League Elite 2024/25 exit after a 0-1 defeat to Buriram United in the Round of 16 second leg at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium last night.
Despite the disappointment, Tunku Ismail, known as TMJ, expressed his pride in the club’s relentless pursuit of excellence on the Asian stage.
“It is always an honour and privilege for Johor Darul Ta’zim FC (JDT) to play in Asia’s elite competition. I am proud of this club fighting tooth and nail to reach greater heights,” TMJ stated.
Acknowledging the painful nature of the defeat, he hinted at contentious moments during the match but remained steadfast in his leadership.
“It is unfortunate to bow out the way we did, including some decisions.”
Taking ownership of the result, TMJ reaffirmed his commitment to further strengthening JDT both on and off the pitch.
“Anyhow, I take full responsibility for the result last night. I am devoted to putting Johor on the football map to compete with Asia’s best and committed to making further investments to strengthen JDT.”
He also revealed that plans to address the team’s weaknesses had been in motion for months, with reinforcements expected once the transfer window opens before the new season.
“We have identified certain weaknesses and already have new plans since a few months ago. We are waiting for the transfer window to open before the start of the new season.”
TMJ took a moment to thank JDT’s passionate supporters, who once again filled Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in record numbers.
“I would like to thank all JDT fans for their remarkable support. It was again the highest attendance at our home.”
“And to Buriram United, congratulations and all the best in the next round.”
