The Acting Sultan of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, has made it clear that the future of Arif Aiman Hanapi is entirely in the player’s hands, allowing him full control over the next step in his career.
The 22-year-old winger has been at the center of speculation, with reports linking him to potential moves to clubs in South Korea and Iran. However, Tunku Ismail, who also owns Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), emphasized that he has never forced any player to remain with the Southern Tigers.
While acknowledging Arif’s freedom to decide, Tunku Ismail believes that staying at JDT would be the best option, especially with the club competing in the prestigious AFC Champions League Elite.
“That depends on Arif Aiman, not on us. If he wants to leave, he is free to do so. If he chooses to stay, he is welcome. It is entirely up to the players,” he stated during a Q&A session with JDT supporters at Padang Seri Gelam.
“I have never pressured any player to stay, but I believe Arif is happy here. At JDT, he not only has the chance to win domestic titles but also the opportunity to compete at the highest level in Asia, like the ACLE,” he added.
Tunku Ismail also pointed out that moving to an ordinary club abroad may not offer the same level of competition as JDT.
“If you join a regular team overseas, you may not get to play in ACLE. In my view, the smartest decision for him is to stay here,” he concluded.
With Arif Aiman being a key player for both JDT and the Malaysian national team, his next move will be closely watched by fans and football analysts alike.
