Mr. Sorawong Thienthong, Minister of Tourism and Sports of Thailand, visited evacuees displaced by the recent clashes between Thai and Cambodian military forces.
The affected individuals, currently taking shelter at the temporary medical rehabilitation center of Buriram Hospital, are from Ban Kruat and Lahan Sai districts in Buriram Province, which lie close to the conflict zone.
During the visit, Mr. Sorawong expressed deep concern over the escalating violence along the Thai-Cambodian border and, on behalf of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, strongly condemned Cambodia’s actions in the ongoing conflict.
He further revealed that discussions have taken place with the SEA Games Council and the President of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand regarding potential diplomatic action. One key proposal is for SEA Games member nations to collectively boycott Cambodia’s participation in the upcoming games.
“As the Minister of Tourism and Sports, I will do everything within my power to prevent Cambodia from participating in the 33rd SEA Games, which Thailand will host from December 9 to 20, 2025,” Mr. Suwong firmly stated.
This bold declaration marks a significant political stance and reflects Thailand’s growing frustration over the border tensions, which have jeopardized civilian safety and regional harmony.
