Terengganu FC was out in this tournament after losing to BG Pathum United, a club from Thailand scoring 3-4 in the Shopee Cup 2024/25 Group Stage, Group A at Pathum Thani Stadium, Pathum Thani.
The game began with BG Pathum pushing aggressively for an early goal. In the 7th minute, Ikhsan Fandi found the net, but his effort was ruled offside.
Terengganu responded with an attempt in the 18th minute when Ismahil Akinade’s right-footed shot from outside the box narrowly missed the target.
Just before halftime, Chanathip Songkrasin delivered a pinpoint cross to Surachat Sareepim, whose header from close range sailed wide. Both teams struggled to capitalize on their chances, ending the first half goalless.
The match came alive in the second half as Akhyar Rashid broke the deadlock, skillfully dribbling past BG Pathum’s defense before slotting in a right-footed shot to give Terengganu a 1-0 lead.
However, the joy was short-lived. BG Pathum’s striker Raniel struck twice within six minutes, turning the game around in favor of the hosts.
Further goals from Gakuto Notsuda and Ilhan Fandi late in the match put BG Pathum in a commanding 4-1 lead, effectively securing their semi-final berth.
In added time, Safawi Rasid sparked a spirited comeback attempt, scoring two quick goals to narrow the deficit to 4-3. Despite the late surge, time ran out for Terengganu, sealing their elimination from the tournament.
With this defeat, Terengganu FC concluded their Shopee Cup campaign in third place after being overtaken by PSM Makassar, who won their final group match to secure a spot in the semi-finals.
