Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC, a club from Cambodia advanced to the group stage after beating Young Elephant FC, a club from Laos scoring 5-1 in the ASEAN Shopee Cup 2024/25 Playoff stage second leg at Olympic National Stadium, Phnom Penh.
In the first leg, Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng beat host Laos Young Elephants 3-2 at Laos National Stadium KM16, Vientiane last week.
The match started with Young Elephants gaining an early lead through a penalty scored by Takumu Nishihara in the eighth minute, leveling the aggregate score at 3-3. However, goals from Cristian Roque Dos Santos and Pablo restored Svay Rieng’s advantage by halftime.
Pablo then dominated the second half, scoring three more goals to secure a comprehensive win for Svay Rieng. His first goal of the night came in the 29th minute, followed by another goal shortly after the restart in the 53rd minute. Pablo completed his hat-trick in the 62nd minute and added a fourth goal in the 74th minute after capitalizing on a defensive mistake by Young Elephants.
Young Elephants finished the match with 10 men after Thipphachanh Inthavong was sent off in the 78th minute, allowing Svay Rieng to comfortably see out the remainder of the game.
This win follows a 3-2 lead from the first leg in Vientiane, giving Svay Rieng an 8-3 aggregate victory.
With this victory, Svay Rieng joins Thailand’s BG Pathum United FC, Terengganu FC from Malaysia, Indonesia’s PSM Makassar, Đông Á Thanh Hóa FC from Vietnam, and fellow qualifiers Shan United FC of Myanmar in Group A of the tournament, which will kick off on August 21.
